Automation in Gimmal Discover

Gimmal Discover has a built-in mechanism to support the invocation of a few of its powerful processes through an external trigger. This technique gives you a way to initiate Discover tasks based on an activity external to the solution without having to login through the administrative console and manually start them. For instance, if you would like the creation of a new group in your organization’s directory to prompt Discover to query the directory for the group’s members and add them to its set of managed users, Automation provides the means to do that. The Automation process also serves as a convenient way to create multiple process definitions and avoid having to key them in manually through the interface.

The following Discover processes are available through Automation:

  • Creation of a Data Owner Search

  • Creation of a Data Target Search

  • Creation of a Governance Policy

  • Update a Governance Policy with one or more of the following options: enable/disable a schedule, reset schedule expiration, add/remove a Data Owner, add a Data Target.

  • Starting a Governance Policy

The automation process is facilitated using Discover templates and the uploading of a parameter file to Discover through a location monitored by a Discover Connector within your environment. Discover templates provide a way to genericize the creation of Data Target & Owner Searches and Governance Policies through tokens that are replaced during processing with values transferred through the parameter file. Gimmal’s customer service team can help with creating the format of a parameter file to satisfy your particular use case.

Please review the Discover documentation here for the specific configuration steps to setup the Automation process.
