Impacted Gimmal Products
The following Gimmal products are known to be impacted by these Microsoft retirements. It is important to note that SharePoint Server is not impacted.
Gimmal Records SharePoint Online Connector (all versions)
On-premises deployments
Gimmal Cloud deployments
Gimmal Link (Legacy)
Deployments connecting to SharePoint Online
Gimmal Content Governance (all versions)
Gimmal Records
The Gimmal Records SharePoint Online Connector currently uses the SharePoint Online Add-in model to manage records in your SharePoint Online tenant. You are impacted by these announcements from Microsoft. However, Microsoft will not disable the Add-in model until April of 2026*.
Gimmal has begun deployment of a new release of Gimmal records, which supports the Microsoft recommended modern authentication method using Microsoft Entra ID app registrations. This Gimmal Records release is currently planned to remain ahead of Microsoft’s retirement timelines. See below for the release dates for your deployment type:
On-Premises Customers
The new functionality is available in version 6.1 of the SharePoint Online Connector (SPOC), released in December 2025. It is now available to all On-Premises customers. Release Notes can be found here.
Please note: You must have Gimmal Records Core 6.0 installed before SPOC 6.1 can be deployed.
Gimmal Records Cloud Customers
All Gimmal-hosted Cloud SharePoint Online tenants have now been updated and deployed. The SharePoint Online Connector (SPOC) cannot connect to SharePoint and Gimmal Records until the configuration is complete.
If not already completed,
Clients will need to create an application registration in Azure AD (Entra ID) and grant it permissions to access SharePoint sites. Please see this article for step-by-step details.
Clients will need to validate information and complete the configuration. See details for configuration, app deployment (if needed), and validation.
Important: SPOC will remain offline until your designated admins complete the post-deployment configuration steps.
The following schedule lists the deployment dates for different regions.
Schedule for Deployment
Dates | Description | Region | Deployment Status | Downtime |
January 23rd | Records Cloud Core update | All Tenants | Completed | None |
February 6th | SPOC Test Sites | All Tenants | Completed | Yes |

Weekend of February 20th | SPOC Production | United States | Completed | Yes |
Gimmal Link (Legacy)
The Gimmal Link (Legacy) suite relies on the SharePoint Add-in model to enable SAP-Microsoft interoperability. However, Microsoft’s planned retirement of SharePoint Add-ins by April 2026 will render Gimmal Link (Legacy) ineffective within SharePoint Online.
To address this, customers are encouraged to transition to Gimmal Link Enterprise for enhanced SAP-content service integration. Gimmal Link Enterprise currently supports Microsoft Modern Authentication and is not affected by this retirement. Customers should work with their Account Manager and Customer Success Manager to plan and execute the transition to Gimmal Link Enterprise, ensuring their systems remain compliant and fully functional.
Link Enterprise is a mature product with a wide range of use cases for SAP and content repositories. It supports migrations, recurring file transfers, document generation, archiving, outbound attachment archiving, inbound document linking, bi-directional data synchronization, list synchronization, data archiving, workflow automation, and governance and compliance. To learn more about Link Enterprise, see our detailed Use Case catalogue.
Gimmal Content Governance
Gimmal has announced the end-of-life for Gimmal Content Governance in December 2025, effective June 30, 2026.
Content Governance will be ineffective within SharePoint Online with Microsoft’s planned retirement of the SharePoint Add-in models in April 2026.
